Opioid addiction experts are thinking outside the box to develop new treatment strategies to be used in place of prescription painkillers and other opioids. Many who suffer from opioid addiction become dependent after being legally prescribed painkillers to subdue pain resulting from injury. Experts have identified a potential alternative to opioid painkillers that allows muscles to heal and repair without the risk of dependency and other life-threatening side effects. The Botox-like drug is still in the testing phase, but doctors are urging the FDA to expedite the process.
