Designed to lift a patient’s breast tissue and nipple, breast lift procedures remove excess skin in order to give patients a more youthful appearance. Breast lifts are often considered by women who are unhappy with their breast shape; however, many of these women are not sure if they are a candidate for the procedure. According to an article by Umbareen Mahmood, whether or not a patient is a candidate for a breast lift is determined by their degree of ptosis. Ptosis occurs when the breast tissue loses its elasticity, causing the breasts to droop. Generally, ptosis is measured by the nipple’s position on the breast. If the nipple has sunk below to fold or points toward the floor, then the patient is considered to have a high degree of ptosis.
