New data from RealSelf shows more people are using anti-aging products than they are using sunscreen daily. In fact, a whopping 62 percent of Americans use anti-aging skincare products whereas only 11 percent are applying sunscreen every day.
Two top reasons why study participants say they wear sunscreen is to prevent cancer and diminish the signs of aging. For American women, the Sun Safety Report shows their motivations are highly appearance-based. The report cites reducing signs of aging and preventing sunspots are the most important factors to women, whereas American men are motivated to prevent the look and feel of a sunburn.

The theory behind the shockingly low percentage of sunscreen use is because many people still believe sunscreen is only important in warmer months or if they are going to be outdoors for an extended period. However, this should not be the case. Daily usage of an SPF hosts a variety of benefits and should be a staple in everyone’s daily skincare regimen.
Luckily, many skincare and cosmetic companies incorporate sunscreen into their products, creating ease for busy consumers. Now, people don’t have to purchase multiple products or spend as much time on their routines.
