July is National Cleft and Craniofacial Awareness and Prevention Month, and special plastic surgery foundations are joining forces in an effort to raise awareness. In a recent survey done by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, nearly 220,000 maxillofacial and craniofacial procedures were performed in 2016. These are performed on patients who undergo trauma due to burns, illnesses or accidents and require a series of reconstructive surgeries every year.
