Spring is just around the corner! What’s stopping you from flaunting your dream body this season? Perhaps excess fat around the abdomen or loose skin is holding you back? If so, you may be a candidate for a mini tummy tuck or a full tummy tuck surgery at Dr. J. J. Wendel Plastic Surgery.

Common Reasons for an Abdominoplasty

The majority of people who choose to undergo an abdominoplasty are looking to achieve a slimmer waistline. Contrary to popular belief, both men and women can undergo a tummy tuck procedure. Factors such as aging, weight loss, pregnancy, and genetics can all contribute to the accumulation of excess fat and loose skin around the abdomen. A tummy tuck procedure effectively removes this excess fat and skin, restores the abdominal muscles, and gives patients a smooth, firm stomach.

Full Tummy Tuck

A full tummy tuck is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the entire abdominal area, as well as the tightening of the underlying muscles. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and requires a horizontal incision across the lower abdomen under the bikini line. Once the excess skin and fat have been removed, the abdominal muscles are tightened, and the remaining skin is pulled taut and sutured in place. An incision is also made around the belly button to reposition it. This procedure leaves patients with a scar below the bikini line and around the belly button.

The result is a flatter, more toned-looking abdomen, with improved contour and a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. A full tummy tuck is best for individuals with a protruding abdomen, large amounts of fat or skin, and those hoping to target stubborn fat that is resistant to traditional weight loss methods.

Mini Tummy Tuck

While a full tummy tuck is a very popular procedure, few are familiar with a mini tummy tuck! This procedure involves a smaller incision than a full tummy tuck and is performed under local anesthesia with sedation. While the full tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat from the entire abdomen, a mini tummy tuck targets only the area below the belly button. Like a full abdominoplasty, a mini tummy tuck tightens the muscles in the area to create a flatter and firmer abdominal profile. Unlike a full tummy tuck, this procedure only leaves a scar below the bikini line.

This procedure is ideal for patients who have a small amount of abdominal fat. A mini tummy tuck is not suitable for patients who require extensive skin and muscle tightening or who have significant abdominal sagging. Because this surgery is less invasive, the recovery period for a mini tummy tuck is usually shorter than that of a full tummy tuck.
