The chin is an important part of the face that affects the facial balance by over or under emphasizing the jawline and mouth. Chin retrusion, a condition where the lower jaw is set back or too far behind the upper jaw, is a common reason for this imbalance of the face. Over the years, plastic surgeons and providers have found ways to improve the chin’s profile surgically. One that skyrocketed in 2011, even outranking Botox for popularity, is the chin implant. These implants have been used to add volume and definition, with their popularity linked to anti-aging efforts and the rising rate of video calls. In more recent years, dermal fillers like Juvéderm have been utilized as a less invasive, less permanent solution to this concern. Most recently, Restylane Lyft has been approved to be used for chin enhancements as of November 2025. Now, with more options than ever, learning about which could work best for you is even more vital.
Restylane Lyft is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler, previously used to add volume in the cheeks or to restore fullness back into the back of the hands. Its original use was to add volume to the cheeks and midface and the product was approved for this application in July of 2015. Later, in May of 2018, it was approved for its second application—the back of the hands. The creator of Restylane Lyft, Galderma, has created numerous products including injectables like Dysport, Sculptra, and other types of Restylane, as well as skincare like Cetaphil and Differin. As an HA filler, Restylane Lyft provides a subtle, natural result that lasts between 6 and 12 months. Thanks to the FDA’s new approval, we now have another option for chin enhancement that is not permanent.
Aside from the newly included Restylane Lyft, multiple types of Juvéderm have been used for chin enhancement. At SKINHAUS Beauty in Nashville, we most commonly use Juvéderm Voluma XC and Juvéderm Volux XC for patients seeking facial balancing in the chin and jawline. Voluma was FDA approved for this use in June of 2020 with Volux following suit a couple years later in July 2022. Both Certified Nurse Injectors Paige Hastings and Jessica Abbott utilize these products to add volume and definition for SKINHAUS patients. Check out before and after photos of Volux and Voluma injections done by SKINHAUS providers to see how Juvéderm could enhance your look.
